i'm supposed to write this entry 2 days ago, but you know, im a busy, busy man (yea right) here goes
it was just another day's work at MINDEF and the guys asked me out for some supper at geylang the day before. well, due to my overwhelming popularity (laugh) and i've already rejected them a couple of times, it's only polite for me to agree. and so, took a cabbie down to geylang lorong 10, and the moment i stepped out the whole atmosphere felt kinda peculiar. i blindly walked around searching for them and it wasn't long until i reached this dark alley just beside one of those coffee shops. it immediately stunned me. men, lotsa men, just straying around, smoking, chatting, waiting for god-knows-what. i can't really translate that feeling into words, but the atmosphere is just, unnatural? depending on how you define it, and what kind of life you lead to be considered natural, lol
anyways, met up with the guys finally. ordered the heavenly (rumoured, by none other than the 3 of them that got me there) frog leg porridge, kung po style. i must say...8 bucks for a frog in kung po sauce? not quite worth it. first of all, i'm not all that impressed with the taste, the "springiness" as Theng puts it. and pulling the meat off the ribs of a frog? yeeew. if the frog tasted like beef and comes in portions weighing a couple of pounds then yea, i might fall in love with it. if not, i'd be more satisfied with a couple of swiss burgers or a sirloin steak.
after everything, we went around sightseeing. not exactly what i hoped for since, like i said, the atmosphere didn't feel quite right. not to mention i'm still in my naval uniform! and there's always the risk of some crazy bangla (no offense) pursuing us with a syringe, lol! not long after, dennis drove us back one by one. that's when the most interesting thing happened
i was at the back, kinda tired out after a day's work and all, and i didn't really participate or make the effort in doing so in their conversation. jer was dropped first. then somehow, fatefully or what, dennis didn't want to make a u-turn and head for my house, and he decided to drop theng at his camp. there was something about subaru competition, but i couldn't care more. i was just hoping to get home and tuck into my bed. it was at the turn from lim chu kang to cck avenue 3 when dennis pulled over at the red light, and the DJ on whatever that radio channel is announced the last 2 participants to be chosen for the subaru challenge. dennis started dialling, while i kindly remind him he's still behind the wheel. the green light came on, and he made a casual remark that why didn't i help call in. very obviously because i didn't have the number, duh. and so, since he's driving me home, the least i could do was to help him with my phone. "sorry, the line you have dialled is engaged at the moment" this went on for the next km or so when suddely, just at the traffic light before the bus stop i'll be alighting, there was a dial tone. it had been 5 mins since the DJ made the announcement, and by now i thought the last 2 participants would have been chosen. but who knows? and no harm waiting since it's not gonna cost me a penny, and that's when someone picked up the phone. it was the DJ, and she asked for my age, etc, and dennis pulled over beside my bus stop. i gave her dennis' details, and i can sense that he's excited, lol! while i was on the phone, i'd to remind him of the incoming bus as his car is blocking its way, and he drove into a street with his hazard lights still turned on, lol! i just passed my phone to him when he stopped his car, and things just went on. yup, he qualified for the competition, the last one to be selected, if i'm not wrong, lol!
i dunno if it's his luck or mine, or maybe jer's (right... haha!) but yea, congrats dennis! with your physique i guess the competition will be a breeze for you. anyway, treat this as an early birthday present from me la!

hmm..what's this feeling? have been feeling kinda slack nowadays :Þ probably due to the 27 work days i have left in SAF, woot!
in the meantime, i'm entertained by my PSP (PlayStation Phixed-to-my-desk), jay's album, this blog, and the relatively new MMO game, Audition SEA. a very cute game, and one that doesn't require hours of hacking the same old monsters to earn exp and money for equipment (think M*ple Story). finally, a game that really tests the player something. reflex. in this case, and also your tolerance everytime you've actually hit that note but the game slaps a huge MISS across your screen. just started playing it, and total gaming hours since i've started doesn't even exceed 5. and yet there're players higher levels than me getting owned, and those around my level helping me to boost my ego further more >:) what can i say? too bad you didn't know who you're playing against :Þ
alright, enough bragging. 'tis a nice game, not to mention with nice songs! k-pop actually rocks! it makes the incomprehensible language more, eh, incomprehensible? but that's music, right? anyways, just a short update on this blog. did i say i'm only left with 27 work days? HAH! take that, wee theng! braggin's never enough >:3

have been polishing up my blog lately, as you can see. the main picture has changed, with the most noticible change from a yellow moon to one with a slight blue tint. also, you may realise the main picture is roughly the same, except it was flipped horizontally and the lighting is different.
well..the last one was rather flawed as it makes the moon appear on the foreground, which makes the mountains at the "back" shine and reflect its light, and we all know that it's pretty much impossible (click here to view it). it has been in the back of my mind for quite some time now, and since i really have nothing much to do, and i'm sort of a slight perfectionist, i've decided to change it :P
now the only thing that lacks grace is the pop-up to remind blog readers to switch their font encoding to Unicode. it'll be some time though, since i have to search and surf the web more to find examples...
and i thought the new pic suits, since i update the contents on this blog only once in a , you guessed it, blue moon :)

woot! 2 posts in the same day, lol!
anyways, noticed something different? if not, turn up your volume! that's right! now my blog's background music is officially in mp3 quality! muahaha! i'm amazed at how great i am!
same song, just MUCH better quality. however, that's gonna be a little taxing on computers with slow connections and/or those with limited broadband access (think Singnet Jetpack. can't believe anyone's still using those stuffs). therefore, i'll be needing some feedbacks! those with maxonline can post to me the average load time in the shout box. those with the unfortunate condition as mentioned above should also tag back similarly.
i'll be sticking with this for a looooong while, i guess, lol. this IS my blog! for those good with computers, please do respect intellectual property and do not rip the music. and for those with slow connections, well, time to upgrade! who in this age is stuck using 56K and limited access? and just viewing my magnificent blog alone should be a good enough reason to upgrade XD

changed music yet again! this time from Rie Fu, a japanese singer, and her songs are pretty comfortable.
for those who watch Bleach, you might notice that this song is actually the first ending theme. but for those who don't or is just attracted to her singing (i know you are, lol), the song's called "Life is like a boat"
ah...and it is

the devil wears prada... and it might be changing my life...
after watching it i began to review my choice to study as a materials engineer in the university. nano-tech? semi-conductors? polymers? thin films? woo...and i thought those things are gonna be popular in the future. but hey... an engineer? how much am i gonna earn? 3K starting pay, if i'm lucky? and all the way up to some senior engineer or project manager with a pay slip of 5k? man, that's pathetic! all these years what have we been through? 6 long, albeit mostly enjoyable, years of primary education. 4 years of secondary education. 2 years of make-it-or-break-it pre-tertiary education. 2 years of dreaded and fruitless national service (and i mean it). and then 4 years of tertiary education before we actually begin our work as a "capable working adult". hmm...let's see...18 years of freaking torment (and that's not including kindergarten or nursery!) and what am i gonna earn? a freaking 5k at the end of the road?! i'm not gonna get stucked there!
and it finally got to me that my true intention, my true goal in life, is actually ... to earn money! honestly speaking, i wanted to be a doctor not because i wanna save lives, goddammit, it's for the money! damn i'm despicable, but so what? if someone offers me a job to sweep the floor with a 5 digit pay slip then for goodness sake you've got yourself a very hardworking sweeper! i'm not saying that engineering is a bad job or what, but in order to earn more, i can't be stuck with quantum theory and structure of atoms and what not, can i?
interest and career couldn't much collide, at least for me. i'm rethinking my choices now. BBA, maybe. but rechoosing in the year of the dragon is kinda...lame. and i was so blind that now then i realised my goal, and now then i realised there is actually a engine+business double degree!! damn i'm going for that one, and against all odds! i don't care whether i'll be sleeping in the library, or i'll me mugging my arse off, damn i'm gonna go for that one!
yes, a degree can't actually guarantee good-paying jobs (that course gives TWO, btw), but it provides you with the necessary skills. and yes, i'm crazy over money, but so what? you're not me, you don't understand. in order to gain something, sacrifices have to be made, isn't it?
